Ho visto un re at Shanghai Gallery of Art, Shanghai
The exhibition Ho visto un re (The King And I), curated by Fantom’s Massimo Torrigiani and Davide Quadrio, produced by Alcantara and first presented in the Apartment of the Prince of Palazzo Reale, Milan, from September 20th to October 23rd, 2016, is travelling to the Shanghai Gallery of Art from January 10th to February 9th, 2017.
Originally and specifically conceived for the rooms of the Apartment of the Prince of Palazzo Reale, of which the artists interpreted the imagined vicissitudes, the exhibition presents works created by nine international artists active in different fields: Maurizio Anzeri, Arthur Arbesser, Paola Besana, Gentucca Bini, Matthew Herbert, Taisuke Koyama, Francesco Simeti, Adrian Wong & Shane Aspegren.
The exhibition in Shanghai thus becomes a journey across space and time. It is about a faraway Palace and its imaginary stories, transposed like a labyrinth or a dream to China. Its common treads are mysteries and fairy tales, told by nine contemporary artists who were inspired by the Alcantara® material. One, produced by the eponymous company, which has thousand variations; its essential character is a tactile one: a surface, a malleable covering, extremely resistant, ready to take any shape.
The result is a playful and surprising exhibition that travels on the tracks of the artists’ imagination, where Alcantara becomes the protagonist of a modern fairy-tale that takes visitors through the rooms of one of the most famous buildings in Milan, shaping a creative vision full of surprises.
