Brighton Photo Biennial 2014

Brighton Photo Biennial, the UK’s most expected international photography festival, is taking place in Brighton until November 2nd, with pop-ups in Hove, around the region and even online through a series of special projects . The current 6th edition – entitled Communities Collectives & Collaboration – presents a packed schedule of shows, events and talks focusing on the role of partnerships in the development of photography based projects.

Among the festival’s exhibitions is Amore e Piombo: The Photography of extremes in 1970s Italy, curated by Federica Chiocchetti and Roger Hargreaves. The show presents archive photographs taken by members of the Rome-based agency Team Editorial Service – together with television news footage, film scenes, sound recordings and a selection of books from Martin Parr’s collection – documenting the political situation of the “Years of Lead” that marked the history of Italy from the Piazza Fontana bombing in Milan in 1969 to Aldo Moro’s kidnap in 1978. The Archive of Modern Conflict dedicated the Issue 9 of its Amc2 journal to the exhibition.
