Lorenzo Vitturi, Dalston Anatomy

Dalston’s Ridley Road Market is invading the Yossi Milo Gallery exhibition space in New York on the occasion of Lorenzo Vitturi’s first exhibition in the United States.

Dalston Anatomy is a vibrant exploration of the renowned East-London market, located near the artist’s residence. This peculiar context, famous for its multicultural stands selling a variety of colorful exotic fruits and vegetables, African and Indian fabrics up to theatrical wigs and many more odds and ends, is the prime driving force of a lively, ever-changing neighborhood.

Fascinated by this environment, Vitturi collected all sorts of discarded materials in his studio and turned them into organic sculptures, which he later photographed in front of constructed backdrops just before they would fall. These staged images are accompanied by portraits, covered with pure colors and objects themselves, and presented together with site-specific installations.

Lorenzo Vitturi (Venice, 1980) graduated in Photography and Design from the Istituto Europeo di Design in Rome. His book Dalston Anatomy, published in 2013 by SPBH Editions, gained international acclaim and was awarded the 2014 Photography Grand Prix at the Hyères International Festival of Fashion and Photography. The project was recently exhibited at The Photographer’s Gallery in London and at FOAM, Amsterdam, in 2013.
