Vapensiero, Maurizio Anzeri at miart 2015, Milan

The 2015 edition of miart – International Fair of Modern and Contemporary Art was the second occasion of collaboration between Fantom and Marsèll at the fair. We presented Vapensiero, a site-specific mobile sculpture by London-based Italian artist Maurizio Anzeri.

Anzeri is well known for his embroidered photographs and for his hair sculptures, through which he introduced us into his imaginary worlds with accuracy and lightness.

Giving substance to the sense of vanity that flows into us all; to the exchange that exists between what we are and what we want to be.

Vapensiero is a sculpture made of 39 found photographs, embroidery and steel.

“The starting point is always a photograph, the needle and thread are my pencil to draw and reinvent the world.”

MAURIZIO ANZERI   was born in Loano, Liguria, in 1969. He obtained an MA from The Slade School of Fine Art in London where he still lives. Among many institutions and galleries, he exhibited his work at The Photographer’s Gallery and Saatchi Gallery, London, at Chapter Art Center, Cardiff, at Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, New Castle, at Pier24 Photography, San Francisco and at The National Museum in Oslo.
