Nove viaggi nel tempo at Palazzo Reale, Milan

We are happy to announce Nove viaggi nel tempo (Nine Journeys Through Time), a group show curated by Davide Quadrio and Fantom’s Massimo Torrigiani, produced by Alcantara with the Municipality of Milan and Palazzo Reale. The exhibition will take place from April 5th to May 13th at Milan’s Palazzo Reale in Piazza Duomo.

The 10 artists in the show are: Aaajiao, Andrea Anastasio, Caterina Barbieri, Krijn de Koning, Li Shurui, Chiharu Shiota, Esther Stocker and Iris van Herpen, Zeitguised, Zimoun.

Each of them – including the unprecedented coupling of Stocker and van Herpen – has produced a new, site-specific work, using Alcantara® and in dialogue with the exhibition space, the Apartment of the Prince: a launch pad for journeys ranging from anomalous science laboratories, anacondas, mutations, sinusoids, oracular apparitions, quirky metronomes, twisting from the natural to the artificial and back again. A succession of fantastical scenarios, from ephemeral architecture to interactive sound devices.

Just like in the two previous shows in the series, Fantasy Access Code (2017) and The King and I (2016), here too one of the main threads of the exhibition – ‘time’ – is the result of a conversation among the artists, a dialogue between artists and material, artists and space, artists and curators. In this case, the Apartment of the Prince led to a reflection on the various dimensions of time: on ‘our’ time, the everyday, practical and fleeting, opposed (or complementary) to ‘scientific time’, dilated and imperceptible.

Each setting turns out to be a surprise that projects us into a sequence of diverse and enthralling space-time dimensions. A journey, at times abstract yet never out of reach, which buffers us between changing worlds and startling aesthetic experiences.
